My name is Josh Bains, and I am currently available as an English / Hebrew studies teacher and tutor, as well as a writing coach. I can help students prepare for reports, tests, applications and general writing, English language, composition and grammar. I can also teach a variety of subject and grade levels.
Education:
My masters degree is in journalism, from the University of Hong Kong's Journalism and Media Studies Center. I learned for several cumulative years at Bircas HaTorah, Skokie Yeshiva and Shor Yoshuv.
Experience:
For three years I taught English, writing and literature at Mesivta Ateres Yaacov in Cedarhurst, New York, to grades 10-12th. I later taught for one year at Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael: Biology and English.
I can work to the level of the student: at Ateres, I taught the brilliant son of a Rosh Yeshiva, and a kid who'd lost half his conscious life to unmedicated ADHD.
I led a private writing course that successfully prepared a chassidic student with a yeshivish background and little writing experience for law school. He told me later that the sources and concepts in our sessions were exactly what his law teachers used to teach writing.
I've taught / tutored mishna, gemara and dik duk to both middle school and adult students.
Writing Background:
I work as a book ghostwriter for business and memoir. My articles are published in the Jerusalem Post, the Nation Newspaper, Philadelphia Daily Bulletin, Ami, Mishpacha, The Jewish Home, Yeshiva World News, (I was associate editor there) Target Marketing, several online publications and in the book Global Stories: Literary Journalism, The Best of Class.
